Marc A. Brinkmeyer – Chairman of the Board
Marc began his career as an accountant with Arthur Anderson in Portland, OR. He worked with medium sized and large companies, including several in the forest products industry. From 1973 to 1981, Marc was the Chief Financial Officer for Brand-S, who had processing facilities in Oregon, Idaho and Montana. In 1981, Brinkmeyer purchased the Laclede sawmill from Brand-S and formed Riley Creek Lumber Co. In 2003, Riley Creek purchased two additional mills from LP located in Moyie Springs and Chilco Idaho. Marc plays an active role in guiding the strategic direction of IFG and is heavily involved in the promotion and development of the Idaho forest products industry.
Erol Deren – VP Sales & Marketing
Erol began his career with Georgia Pacific in 1987 where he held various positions of increasing responsibility in sales, procurement, and management. His last position was Director of Commodity Lumber. He joined Riley Creek in 2005 as president of the distribution company. In 2007 Erol was named the VP of Sales & Marketing of Riley Creek Lumber and in December of 2009 the VP of Sales and Marketing for Idaho Forest Group. Erol has a BS in business administration and a Minor in economics from Humboldt State University.
Kevin Esser – CFO
Kevin joined IFG in January 2010 and is a 1990 graduate of the University of Idaho where he majored in accounting and finance. He started his career with the accounting firm KPMG Peat Marwick in Portland, Oregon, where he specialized in the manufacturing and forest products industries. His experience includes controller for a national wholesale company, CFO of a start-up Internet company and, most recently, Divisional Controller and then Director of Marketing for Freightliner LLC, the world’s largest manufacturer of heavy duty trucks. Kevin is a Certified Public Accountant.
Mike Henley – Regional Manager, Chilco, Laclede,and Athol Mills
Mike has over 24 years of knowledge and experience in the lumber industry. Mike worked briefly at the LP mill in Priest River, Idaho pulling on the green chain prior to starting his career with Riley Creek Lumber. He has over 17 years in Industry Management, 8 years as sawmill supervisor, 4 years as maintenance supervisor, 5 years as the Laclede and Chilco mills Regional Manager, and most recently became Regional Manager of the Athol facility. Prior to getting his opportunity in management, Mike spent 7 years in the green end of the Laclede plant where he operated most mill machinery, log yard equipment and spent some time in Quality Control. Currently for Idaho Forest Group Mike is “hands on” and through his leadership has helped both facilities become low cost, efficient producers of high quality lumber. Mike enjoys working with other team members to bring out the best in them in addition to working with customers.
Jesse Short – Regional Manager, Lewiston, Grangeville and St. Regis Mills
Jesse has more than a decade of leadership experience in the industry. He joined Riley Creek Lumber after four years with Louisiana Pacific, and continued on with Idaho Forest Group after the merger with Bennett Forest Industries. He was previously plant manager for the Moyie Springs facility for four years, and in 2011 he was moved south to be Regional Manager of the Lewiston, Grangeville and St. Regis mills. He holds an Associates Degree in residential construction from Delta College in Saginaw, Michigan.
Chris Pease – Regional Manager, Moyie Springs Mill
Chris began his career in the sawmill industry as a Kiln Operator for Louisiana-Pacific in 1996. In 2005, he joined Riley Creek, Moyie Springs Mill, as a Boiler/Kiln Operator. Three years later, in 2008, he was promoted to Lead Boiler/Kiln, as Riley Creek transitioned to Idaho Forest Group. In 2010, he became Green End Supervisor until he was named Plant Manager of Moyie Springs Mill February 2013. In November 2017, IFG acquired the St. Regis mill and Chris was named Regional Manager of both mills. Chris is committed to promoting safety, team work and community awareness.
Tom Schultz – VP of Government Affairs
Tom Schultz became the Vice President of Governmental Affairs for Idaho Forest Group in January 2018. Prior to working for Idaho Forest Group, he served as the director of the Idaho Department of Lands for six years. As secretary to the State Board of Land Commissioners (Land Board), he oversaw the management of 2.4 million surface acres of endowment lands and 3.3 million acres of endowment minerals in the State of Idaho. Prior to joining the Idaho Department of Lands, Tom worked for the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) for 14 years. He served as the administrator of the DNRC Trust Lands Division, and served as the administrator for the DNRC Water Resources Division from 2009 to 2010. Before working for the State of Montana, Tom served as an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Launch Officer in the United States Air Force. Tom earned a Bachelor’s degree in Government from the University of Virginia and holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Wyoming as well as a Master’s degree in Forestry from the University of Montana.
Jamie Major – Director of Human Resources
Jamie joined Idaho Forest Group in April of 2018 as Director of Human Resources. Prior to IFG, Jamie worked for Imerys, an international mining and mineral company based out of Atlanta and Paris. Previous to that, he worked in HR for the City of Roswell, Georgia. Before working in Human Resources, Jamie served as a Police Detective in metro Atlanta. Jamie has been designated a Senior Certified Professional by the Society of Human Resources as and has his M.B.A. from Mercer University. He received his undergraduate degree from Reinhardt University in Organizational Management and Leadership. Jamie is focused on the future success of IFG by building on the positive employee central culture, supporting IFG contractors, consistently improving safety and continued community engagement.
Bruce Brewer – Residual Manager
Bruce has over 30 years of experience in all aspects of the forest products business. He is a graduate of the University of Idaho with a BS in Forest Business and began his forestry career in 1981. Bruce joined Riley Creek in 2003 and transitioned to Idaho Forest Group in 2008. He has held positions as Fee Lands Manager, Chilco Resource Manager and Chilco Plant Manager. Currently, as the Residuals Manager for all five IFG mills he is responsible for the sales of all chips, sawdust, shavings and bark.
Alan Harper – Resource Manager
Alan received his BS degree in Forest Management from Humboldt State University in 1985. After graduation he started his career in forestry working for Diamond Lands out of Sterling City, California where he worked on the timber sale layout crew setting up timber sales and managing the contract logging crews. In 1989 he started his own business “Timber Wolf Enterprises” which specialized in writing forest management plans and contract logging. In 2000 Alan took a position with Riley Creek Lumber to be the Resource Manager for the new saw mill that was being built in Plummer, Idaho later known as Plummer Forest Products. In 2008 Alan became the Northern Division Resource Manager for Idaho Forest Group.
Bill Higgins – Resource Manager
Bill has been the Resource Manager at the Grangeville mill since September 2006 and the newly purchased Lewiston sawmill since November 2011. Prior to that, he was Resource Manger for Yakima Resources which was the old Boise Cascade mills in Yakima, Washington. After graduating from the University of Idaho with a degree in Forest Products in 1994, Bill spent twelve years with Boise Cascade in Kettle Falls, Washington and Yakima, Washington as a forester, road engineer and logging manager. Bill also holds an MBA from Washington State University.
Curtis Fryer – Chief Technology Officer
Curtis Fryer became the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Idaho Forest Group in 2016. Curtis received his Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems from Lewis Clark State where he was quickly recruited to become the college’s Data Communications Manager six months prior to graduation. Following his work with the college, he advanced in his technology career by helping to build a start-up company into a thriving business. For ten years he devoted his time to bringing technology to the north-central part of Idaho in a multitude of arenas such as education, healthcare and manufacturing. In 2010, Curtis became the Lead Information Officer for a rural healthcare system that was working towards adoption of the Affordable Care Act. Curtis also enjoys spending time with his family, camping, snow skiing and playing golf.
Dana Schmitz – Business Planning/Analyst
Dana has been in the Wood Products Industry for over 26 years and started working for Idaho Forest Group in early 2012. Dana started in the Industry with Potlatch Corporation in accounting, moved through Superintendent roles in both lumber and plywood. Most of the last ten years with Potlatch was spent as their Business Planning Manager for their Wood Products Division. The last three years he served as Plant Manager for Lewiston Lumber under Clearwater Paper. Dana has a solid base in Modeling with Linear Programming, going back to the early days of PC’s in the late 80’s. Dana will be working on identifying opportunities across all functions and operations within IFG to improve our cost positions of our revenue stream.
